# Background jobs run for 15 minutes

> Scheduled functions and async function calls can now run for up to 15 minutes per run, up from 3, so long syncs, imports, and batch AI work fit in one run.

## Headline changes

### Changed: Scheduled functions run for up to 15 minutes

A scheduled run can now last up to 15 minutes, up from 3. Jobs like a nightly sync between two systems or a large import now fit in a single run, instead of being split across ticks with progress saved in between. Your project picks up the new limit on its next deploy; there is nothing to configure.

### Changed: Async function calls run for up to 15 minutes

A route started with `ctx.callFunctionAsync()` gets the same 15-minute limit. A handler that has to answer a request quickly can hand slow work to another route and return straight away.

## Other changes

### Changed

- A failed run is retried about a minute after it ends (docs: https://helix.tray.ai/documentation/reference/limits/)
A scheduled or async run that fails is still retried once, now about a minute after the failed run ends instead of five minutes after it started. Keep handlers safe to run more than once.
